I smiled when I read this not because it's shocking news but rather because I was thinking it's about time. GeeZ what took them so long? Anyway with all the hubbub good and not so good it's nice to see such an amazing number of choices. In case you missed that number it's "One Hundred Thousand Apps" You have to admit, that's a lot of Apps.

CUPERTINO, California—November 4, 2009—Apple® today announced that developers have created over 100,000 apps for the revolutionary App Store, the largest applications store in the world. iPhone® and iPod touch® customers in 77 countries can choose... [Read More]

I've been a longstanding fan of Google Voice. I got my invite within the first few weeks of it's debut and have used and abused the SMS capabilities. The service has overall saved me a ton on my wireless bill and made it easier to for friends and family to keep in touch with me by calling one simple number that rings me wherever I am. It seems though that this innovative service has some competition in the form of a new service called Ribbit Mobile.

via eWeek:"Ribbit brought its cloud computing phone application to the mobile device... [Read More]

All the reports lately of security on mobile devices has sparked consumer interest in hardening their devices and even anti-virus programs. However, it seems the first phishing SMS scam has been conducted on jail-broken iPhone devices.

via Cnet: "A hacker in the Netherlands broke into some jailbroken iPhones and sent text messages to the owners asking them to pay to find out how to secure their phones, according to postings in a Dutch forum called Tweakers.net.

One of the victims posted a screenshot from his iPhone of the... [Read More]

AT&T is pulling no punches in rebuttal to Verizon's latest commercials comparing their 3G coverage to that of AT&T's. According to a report from Reuters, "AT&T Inc is suing Verizon Wireless in an effort to stop its bigger mobile rival from using "misleading" coverage maps in advertisements that AT&T says are causing it to lose "incalculable market share."

According to the lawsuit which AT&T filed in Atlanta federal court, a... [Read More]

It seems there's even more to add to Apple's app rejection debacle. Apparently you can't have the word iPhone in the title of the application, as app author and MacWorld editor, Jason Snell, recently discovered.

via TheGuardian: "Tales from the Twilight Zone of the iPhone App Store, pt 946: Apple has rejected an ebook submitted by Macworld because it contains the word "iPhone".

Yes. It's true. Even though there is another ebook called "iPhone: The Missing Manual". And that if you do a search in the... [Read More]

Today Google Search by voice is taking another big step - Google search by voice is available for Nokia S60 phones, and now understands Mandarin Chinese.

Nokia S60 phones are popular around the world. If you have an Nseries or Eseries phone such as the N95, N900 or E71 etc, you're using S60. Many of these phones have 12-digit keypads — good for making calls, but not so easy when you need to type a few... [Read More]

Sprint to officially block tethering

You would think if your not the number 1 or the number 2 carrier you would be promoting it by giving customers everything you possibly could in hopes of attracting business. Taking away a feature makes it even more confusing.

Recently without notice Sprint decided to block tethering for smartphones on their network out of the blue. And Sprint customers are furious about the changes. I read comments that some people may quit the service just because of the change. It doesn’t matter if you are on the “Everything” plan or not, tethering will no longer work for you starting in 2010.

The changes were confirmed by Sprint executive David Owens. During a virtual chat on the Sprint website, Owens also revealed that... [Read More]
